Welcome to the Lens Shark Photography Podcast, episode 381. Maybe don't do this.

0:25.1

In this episode, a photographer perhaps didn't think this through. AI isn't exactly rock solid in its claims. This tripod levels itself.

0:41.1

Lime 2 is a thing. Not all photos need to be taken. Permits and fees surprise some. Clever supplies in the bad game now. This company is mostly leaving China. And TechArts' new adapter does significantly more.

0:57.1

All that and more in episode 381 of the Lens Shark Photography Podcast.

Okay, with that, I'm your host, Sharky James. Let's hit it.

2:19.1

There's a photographer on TikTok who went crazy viral recently with a video talking about how she charges a flat $3,500 fee for what's pretty close to the promise of a lifetime photo package.

2:33.1

And as of this recording, that video has been viewed over 1.1 million times. In that video, she talks about how when a couple books are for a wedding which starts at $3,500, they also get a complimentary shoot for future milestones in their lives like their quote.

2:51.1

One year anniversary baby announcement, maternity and newborn family session, end quote. Now I could be wrong, but judging from what I've seen, I don't think she's been in business super long and I have my doubts for how much longer she's actually going to remain in business.

3:09.1

It just isn't a sustainable business model in my opinion. She's trying to incentivize people to hire her to shoot their wedding with the promise of all these other shoots being done for free.

3:20.1

And there's just no way that she's going to have enough time to do those shoots and have time for new shoots that actually pay something that many people have pointed out to her, but she's just not hearing it.

3:33.1

She's only hearing the good feedback. And what is she care? She's getting more sales, getting that money up front. And if she ever burns out, she'll just get out of the business and ghost them. It happens all the time.

3:46.1

Listen, there are plenty of businesses that work on the business model that not everyone is going to take advantage of their services and those actually work.

3:55.1

The most obvious example in the one everyone sites is gym memberships. They know that only a certain percentage of those people that are paying $50 a month or what have you are actually going to show up on a regular basis.

4:09.1

If everyone showed up every darn day, can you imagine how long the lines would be on every machine at the gym? You would not be able to work out before work or after work without living there.

4:23.1

Then there's the movie theaters who charge a monthly fee so you can see unlimited movies. Again, only a tiny percentage will take advantage of that. And they're hoping that those that do show up will buy outrageously expensive popcorn, candy, sodas, etc.
