Summary

What is American ginseng (Panax quinquefolius) and why is it becoming increasingly rare in North American forests. In this episode, we revisit a conversation I had back in 2015 with Dave DeViney, a scientist deeply passionate about this plant. As you will hear, despite being highly valued in the herbal trade, surprisingly little is known about this plant an its ecology. And with new stories coming out in recent weeks about the plight of American ginsing being so bad in areas of eastern North America that

moratoriums have had to be put on wild harvesting, I think it's time to revisit this subject.

This was a conversation I had with a man named Dave Davinny. He's a truly fascinating human being, and that early on, it was one of those conversations
