Welcome back to another episode of Reality Life with Kate K. C.

I hope that you had a great week.

This episode I wanted to talk about an extraordinary documentary that I saw more than 20 years ago,

but that has always stayed with me.

And I certainly think of it every four years with the summer Olympics.

I don't know, maybe some of you are like me that sometimes you read something, watch something,

listen to something and it really stays with you.

Like the way I felt when I read the kite runner or I watched the movie Filomena.

This is how I felt about this extraordinary documentary called One Day in September,

directed by Kevin McDonald, which examines the September 5th 1972 murder of Israeli athletes,

11 Israeli athletes at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, Germany.

That documentary won the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature at the 72nd Academy Awards.

The 72 Munich Olympics were built as the Olympics of Peace and Joy after the end of World War II,

but it became the Olympics of terror.

The West German Olympic Organizing Committee had hoped to discard the military image of Germany,

and the committee was wary of the image portrayed by the 1936 Summer Olympics,

which Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler used for his propaganda.

What is crazy is that during this hostage takeover of the Israeli athletes and coaches,

more than 900 million viewers across the world followed the Chilean 20-hour event on live television,

as German authorities desperately negotiated with the terrorists with sportscaster Jim McKay reporting live.
