So right now is a great time to talk about today's topic because it was this week two years ago

when I first figured out this phenomenon of recovery burnout or recovery fatigue. I don't even know if this is a real word. It's just what I call it.

At about three and a half months sober, I started to reach a point where I was exhausted from recovery.

I was going to about five AA meetings a week.

I had my Facebook accountability groups, I was seeing a therapist, I did my daily readings assigned me by my sponsor,

I was working the 12 steps, exercising regularly, reading different self-help books, going to work,

running a business, and I started to burn out on being sober.

I remember one Sunday laying on my couch having canceled a group fitness class and talking to my

sponsor about how exhausted I was and I told her all

the things I was trying to do every day to work on my recovery and her advice was

very clear. Slow down. You don't have to do everything every day.

I think there's this misconception when we quit drinking that we are going to turn 100% of

our lives around.
