Summary

Kurt and Kristin are a husband and wife who want to read more together. Their question for Anne is a fun twist on a familiar theme — “What should WE read next?” Kristin has been a lifetime lover of books; Kurt has only recently become a serious reader (thanks in part to 15 years of nudging from his wife). They want to find books that they can read and talk about together! Both enjoy high-quality fiction, but you can probably guess which one of them loves Blood Meridian and which one loves A Tree Grows in Brooklyn. Anne's challenge is to help them find books in the tiny sliver of their overlapping interests. We don't get bossy on this show. What we will do here is give you the information you need

literary matchmaking with one guest. Readers, we are trying lots of exciting and new things today.

0:45.3

We have two guests, Kristen and Kurt Frankie, who approached me through the guest permission form

0:50.4

with a slightly different question. What should we read next?

Kristen and Kurt have been married 16 years. Kristen has been a reader for a long time,

0:59.5

Kurt, not so much, but recently they've started reading together, but they read for different

1:04.3

reasons, and they have very different tastes. So they want recommendations for books that they

1:08.5

can enjoy together that will hit both their sweet spots. This was a lot of fun. I hope you enjoy it.

1:14.3

Kristen and Kurt, thanks so much for coming on. Thank you Ann. Kristen, you sent me an email that

1:20.5

really intrigued me that said, well, we'll get to it, but you had a really interesting idea and a

1:27.5

struggle might be overstating it, but an interest that I know a lot of readers and a lot of listeners

1:33.0

really relate to. Can you tell me a little bit about yourself and about your reading life?

1:37.6

Well, I have been reading my whole life. You'll meet my husband, but I'm definitely more book

1:43.6

nerdy than he is. So when we got married 15 years ago, it was kind of my dream that he would join

1:49.8

me in my book nerdy life, but life is busy, and he's had a lot to do with remodeling houses and

1:57.2

everything, and hasn't been able to join me on the journey. But the last year, he thinks of
