When I was young, I couldn't wait for our summer holidays over Christmas in Australia

because we'd always go to your minor beach on the central coast of New South Wales. Now, the place

we used to go to was so known because of its undertow. It had a really bad rip. And every year,

people would get caught in that rip and get swept out. And in some cases, there were times that people actually died because of the strength of the undertow.

Now, I have to ask the question.

I'm not sure why our parents took us to that particular beach every year.

But the fact is, because it was so dangerous, my dad would always drop a couple of towels on the sand.

He'd put a bunch of beach tails over here and then

some beach towels over there and he would make them and set them as markers for us kids.

Now he would tell us constantly, when you're out there swimming, you're going to have so much fun,

but make sure you look up and check your markers regularly because if you don't, you're going to get caught up in the current that you don't even know is there under the surface and you're going to be swept out to see.

And dad would always say to us, you know, kids, all you ever have to do to drift is nothing.
