β†’ Detailed Show Notes

β†’ Timestamps:
(00:00) A brief overview of these chapters.
(04:02) The Nephites saw the Savior Jesus Christ in the Law of Moses.
(12:08) The children of Israel willingly donated material to construct The Tabernacle, giving even more than was needed.
(15:52) The articles of The Tabernacle.
(20:01) Aaron and his sons are washed, anointed, and clothed in priesthood robes.
(22:20) The Tabernacle is a miniature cosmos, which parallels the creation of the earth in its literary construction. The glory of the Lord fills it.
(26:13) Scholars have mapped a chiastic structure in the first five books of the Bible. The apex can be seen as Leviticus 16, which focuses on the Day of Atonement. In this way, we see that the center of the Pentateuch is Jesus Christ.
(27:48) Walking through the steps of offering a sacrifice at The Tabernacle.
(37:29) The five offerings are meant to separate the clean from the unclean. Leviticus contains only a fragmentary record of the institution of the priesthood.
(40:40) Kosher and purity laws in Leviticus 11-15.
(45:41) Yom Kippur or the Day of Atonement.
(50:11) The scapegoat, as portrayed in the Day of Atonement, can be interpreted in many ways.
(58:35) Israel is commanded to not reap the corners of their fields and to leave their gleanings for the poor. This symbol of the circle in the square can also represent the temple, the unification of heaven and earth, and is found in the book of Ruth.
(1:01:47) Prohibition of mingling seed and garments of linen and wool. The holy and the profane are not to be mixed.
(1:04:58) Israel is commanded to be different from their neighbors in grooming standards.
(1:06:29) Israel is to keep the Feasts of the Passover, of Unleavened Bread, of Pentecost or Firstfruits, of Trumpets, of the Day of Atonement, and of Tabernacles.

Welcome to Talking Scripture. I'm Mike.

0:26.1

And I'm Bryce.

0:31.6

And today we are in the end of Exodus, and we're doing a couple selections out of the book of Leviticus today.

0:32.9

And for a lot of people, this gets really, really heavy.

0:35.8

Now, some of you love this and are coming to this

0:39.1

podcast because you know we're going to jump into a lot of the details. But other people,

0:43.8

this is the point where a lot of readers of the Old Testament start to sputter because we're into

0:48.2

the law of Moses. Levitticus really does kind of read like a technical manual. And there's kind of a joke about men and

0:56.6

putting together furniture. I don't know, Bryce, if you've ever heard this joke, right? We're putting

1:00.1

together furniture. And then we can't quite get a put together. And what does our wife say?

1:04.2

Read the manual. Did you read the manual? And are you one of those guys, Bryce?

1:08.8

I have learned from many experiences that now I start with the manual. I don't know that that's always been the case, but now I start with the manual. I don't. I'm one of those people where I'm like, oh, I can do this. And then, you know, you're in trouble when you kind of get down to the... What are these extra parts? Exactly. One time my brother had our carburetor torn apart and we had it all put back

1:28.7

together, but we held these extra parts and we kind of looked at each other and went, oh, great.

1:33.1

They probably weren't important anyway. And so the book of Leviticus is really like that manual.

1:39.3

And I get it. If you're one of those people we're like, really, I don't want to read a manual.

1:46.0

Well, there's good news. Being the nerd that I am, you know, we kind of went through and

1:51.4

outlined the whole book of Leviticus. So even though we're not going to cover it all in this

1:56.0

podcast, know that in the notes, we outline this stuff. If you want to take the time, you will find
