Summary
Did you know that the bulk of biodiversity in temperate forests lies not in the trees but in the herb layer? Forest herbs are vital to ecosystem health and function but how are they being affected by all of the changes going on around them? These are the kinds of questions for which Dr. Frank Gilliam likes to find answers. Join us for a fascinating and important discussion about forest herbs in a changing world. | 1:19.5 | who you are and what it is you do. Okay. My name is Frank Gilliam. I grew up in Lexington, |
| 1:26.5 | Kentucky, and it's a good place to start because I really give my parents a lot of credit for how I came to be a plant ecologist. I was long interested in nature, just hiking around. Very fortunate to be to grow up in Lexington, Kentucky. |
| 1:44.5 | Lexington, not itself, but that part of Kentucky was surrounded by natural settings. |
| 1:49.5 | So state parks and nature preserves, these kinds of things, and they always indulge my interest in nature, even at a really young age. |
