We're in a mass start, and I had a double pole about 100 meters to start the course with everyone else.

And I ended up breaking one of the poles off the start line. I ended up throwing the poles off the side anyway, and I skied about five kilometers into the race with the lead pack, without poles. And it was just so thrilling. I just kept it going. I kept it going. And I said, oh, hey, maybe I can win this thing it'll be amazing I don't know but not have both and so I took the lead um it was a 10k and I took the lead

in about 5k in and my one of my skis ended up breaking in half and I had about three kilometers

left and I had you know no poles and one good ski.

And I thought, this is just unbelievable.

ski racing for the U.S. Olympics. Matter of fact, he just got back from Pyongchang, Korea,

and I'm interested to hear how that went, but he also is the founder of the United States

Ski Pole Company. And so we're going to be

talking about Nordic Ski Racing and a few other things as well as what it's like to start a new

Well, man, so you have quite a history behind you.

For starters, let's talk about where you grew up, because I think that's pretty unique.

So you grew up in Sodana, Alaska.

So what was that like?

Yeah, Salatna, Alaska is a wonderful place.

It's a big fishing town in the summer, and it's a little bit quieter in the winter.
