My guest today is Ed Seykota, a commodities trader, who earned S.B. degrees in Electrical Engineering from MIT and Management from the MIT Sloan School of Management, both in 1969. In 1970 he pioneered Systems trading by using early punched card computers to test ideas on trading the markets. Originally profiled in the classic book 'The Market Wizards', Seykota has played a pivotal role in the growth of trend following trading for 40 years.

Not from any kind of a hero worship standpoint or anything like that.

But early on in my career,

Ed influenced me. He got me thinking clearly. If you ever see me picking apart arguments,

starting debates, and perhaps you fixate on the emotional component of the debate,

and you don't look at the facts and you don't look at the logic.

That's what I learned from Ed.

Put aside the emotion.

Let people get all hot and bothered.

Let them get all worked up.

And then calmly, coolly, break everything into its component parts
