To Kenbei Mutambo is not just a world-class athlete, but he's a world-class philanthropist, a leader who's made a huge difference in his native country,

the Democratic Republic of Congo, and throughout the world to try and alleviate suffering and provide opportunity for people in need.

He came to the Institute of Politics at the University of Chicago recently, and I sat down and talked to him about his remarkable journey from his years growing up in Africa to his athletic career to the important work that he's doing today.

I have to start with your name.

I know your friends call you DEEK. Everybody knows you as to Kenbei Mutambo, but in looking at...

It's longer than that.

Yes, I know. Tell me your whole name.

It's very simple. It's like, to Kenbei Mutambo, Orlando, Mucamba, to Ken Sajjakwa.

Yeah, it just rolls off the tongue.

Yeah, it's only nine names. It's not that bad.

Yeah, which I guess isn't unusual.

You obviously, you come from the Democratic Republic of the Congo in Africa. It's not unusual to accumulate.

No, mostly when the child is born, your parents will try to give you the name of...

Either to give you a father name, or a grandparents name, or to give you the name of someone who plays a role in the family.

It's no longer with us. I'm not sure that that name is still going.

So when you are deceased, your name really doesn't go away. It comes back right away to one of the child who is born next in the family.

Yeah. And to Kenbei, tell me the origins of that name. Someone told me that it means banana.
