Summary

It’s been a long road for Morgan Mason to get to where he is today. It’s a story not unlike many veterans who have struggled to find their way after coming home from deployments overseas.

Morgan is from a farm near a small town in rural Kansas, and he had a pretty normal upbringing, spending a ton of his time hunting and fishing with his dad and brother. But a deployment to Iraq in 2003, at just 20 years old, changed his world.

Morgan spent his time post-war conflicted and searching for answers. The search led him to backcountry adventures in Colorado paddling whitewater or snowboarding the mountains and multiple season-long surfing and spearfishing missions in Baja. It was a time of experiential outdoor therapy that would help Morgan to rediscover hunting with an invigorating clarity.

Eventually, Morgan’s road led him to MeatEater, Inc., where we hired him as an associate editor just about a month ago. We’re happy as hell to have him. Enjoy this conversation with the newest member of our crew, because you’ll be seeing a lot from him on our platform very soon.
