| 0:00.0 | You know, Henry Kissinger during the Iran-Iraq war had this famous quote where he said, it's a shame they both can't lose. That's how I think about a world where it's Facebook meta versus, you know, a Chinese essentially owned company in TikTok. I don't trust either of them. What a lot of people, including myself, are advocating, is not for TikTok to not be a thing for kids or to make it illegal or to ban it or this or that. It's just that |
| 0:21.1 | social media isn't really a suitable place for young children. |
| 0:30.2 | Welcome to The Lost Debate, a show for politically eclectics. I'm Robbie Gupta. I'm Corey |
| 0:34.1 | Bradford. And I'm Ricky Schlaught. Well, Corey, what do we have today? On today's show, America, we might have an Adderall problem on our hands. We stayed up all last night doing the research, and today we'll focus in on what may be causing that trend. And Facebook seems to be feeling the competitive heat. We'll discuss how they've been fighting dirty to try and undercut TikTok. But first things first, you can pretty much tell who's for and against a new bill in Florida based on what they call it. |
| 0:58.5 | The parental rights and education bill or the don't say gay bill. |
| 1:02.1 | With that in mind, let's look through the actual language of this legislation. |
| 1:05.8 | Ravi, you did a lot of research on this. |
| 1:08.1 | What exactly did you find? |
| 1:09.6 | So this bill does a number of things. First, |
| 1:12.8 | it deals with instruction on gender and sexuality, and it's going to constrain that in certain |
| 1:17.7 | grades, which we'll get to. It says that schools will be required to notify parents when children |
| 1:21.8 | receive mental, emotional, or physical health services unless educators believe that there's a risk |
| 1:26.6 | of abuse, abandonment, |
| 1:28.2 | or neglect. Parents have the right to opt their children out of certain counseling and health |
| 1:32.1 | services now, and parents can sue schools for violating this law. And Florida is also going to go in |
| 1:38.5 | and rewrite counseling standards. And we're going to go through some of the key provisions |
| 1:42.3 | of this bill, because I think the easiest way to cut through the noise of the discussion is actually to read the bill together in certain key sections. But before we do that, let's cut to Ron DeSantis when he signed this bill. |
| 1:54.1 | And so we've already taking great steps. Last year, I signed the parents' bill of rights in the state of Florida, which was really something that was significant. |
| 2:03.6 | Last week, we signed curriculum transparency legislation so that parents have a right to access the curriculum that's in their kids' schools, |
| 2:11.6 | as well as understand what type of books are in school libraries. |
| 2:15.6 | And today we will sign HB1557, the parents' rights and education bill. |
| 2:21.3 | So what I find notable about this clip is critics of DeSantis are saying this is part of this larger effort, |
