Summary

Some of are introduced to adventure sports shortly after figuring out how to walk. Some of us found ourselves eyeballs deep in our adventure passions as teenagers and, for others, it takes until their forties or later to discover the pure enjoyment we have all come to know and love no matter what age we were when it happened. And that is a great thing. It's not crucial that we all see the light so early in life. What is important is that we do eventually find ourselves living and dreaming as adventurers. Scott Newman spends time with Curt re-living his discovery and new passion for hiking and backpacking on today's show. Can you relate to Scott's story? if so, join our Facebook group and tell us about it. We would love to hear your story!

Do you have a story about a time that things went pretty wrong and you had to pull through?

0:14.5

So we had a trip. It was about three years ago, and we were coming over a crest. We'd been out for a while and we came over a

0:25.7

crest and it was it was cold. It was easy 20, 25 below zero. And at that point, you know,

0:31.2

you're wearing, I have two two layers on the bottom. I've got four or five layers on the top. I had five layers at that

0:40.3

point in time. And we came over the top and all of a sudden the wind changed. And the wind

0:46.4

started to gust and swirl in our direction. And there is no, when you're out there, there isn't

0:53.0

a way to get to any shelter. You just, there is no going back you're out there, there isn't a way to get to any shelter.

0:55.8

You just, there is no going back.

0:57.9

Right.

0:58.1

There is only going forward.

0:59.8

And so you pull everything down.

1:02.3

It was not a, we didn't anticipate that weather change.

1:07.0

And so it took a lot out of us.

1:09.8

It really dropped the temperature, really dropped very, very quickly.

1:13.5

And we stayed pretty close to one another rather than, you know, sometimes you give yourself

1:19.3

a little bit more space.

1:20.5

But we stayed pretty close together, and it took us a while to get through it.

1:24.8

But that was probably one of the most nerve-wracking experiences we had had out there.

1:30.0

So what about hypothermia?

1:31.7

I mean, you're doing a lot of winter trips.
