Welcome back to another episode of Reality Life with Kate Casey.

There have been few movie executives as dominant or as domineering as Harvey Weinstein, who

co-founded the production and distribution companies Mira Max and the Weinstein company,

helping to reinvent the model for independent films.

With Harvey at the helm, movies including Sex Lies and videotape, The Crying Game, Pulp

Fiction, The English Patient, Shakespeare in Love, and The King's Speech, the company

rose to fame garnering more than 300 Oscar nominations.

At the annual award ceremonies, he was thanked more than almost anyone in the movie industry.

Beyond Hollywood, he had exercised his influence as a prolific fundraiser for Democratic Party

candidates.

Harvey, however, was also known for promising scripts, directors, and actors with a bullying,

even threatening style of doing business, inspiring both fear and gratitude.

For more than 20 years, Weinstein has also been trailed by rumors of sexual harassment

and assault, and it has been said it was an open secret to many in Hollywood.

Few people were willing to speak much less allow a reporter to use their names, and Weinstein

and his associates used non-disclosure agreements, payoffs, and legal threats to suppress their

accounts.

In October of 2017, following sexual abuse allegations dating back to the late 1970s,

Weinstein was dismissed from his company and expelled from the Academy of Motion Picture

Arts and Sciences.

More than 80 women had made allegations against Weinstein by October 31st of that year.
