Here's an interesting way to think about your next side hustle or small business idea.

0:10.3

If you want to teach what you know, like if you like the idea of, okay, I'm going to create some

0:14.8

kind of educational business. Maybe it's a channel, maybe it's a series, maybe it's a new social

0:20.5

account or some kind of product I developed.

0:23.6

The question is, do you begin your search with the idea of the topic or the format?

0:28.6

In other words, do you say, I want to start a podcast, what should my podcast be about?

0:33.8

Or do you say, I want to teach people about scuba diving or backgammon or programming Python or any

0:39.5

other topic, whatever it might be, and then figure out, okay, what is the platform or medium?

0:44.8

Well, I would say that in general, that second approach might be better, but you're still going to

0:49.1

end up at the other decision one way or another. In both scenarios, you have to have a topic in a

0:53.4

format or a topic in a

0:55.1

medium, if you prefer. So in today's listener question, we've got, it's kind of a throwback

0:59.9

question. We first featured it a few years ago. I've got a updated answer because I do think some

1:04.4

things have changed since we first talked about this, but the decision is between a podcast or a

1:09.9

YouTube channel. And they're wondering, Grace, our callers wondering, should she start a podcast? Should she start a YouTube channel? What are the pros and cons? How does she make the best decision? And so on. I'm going to do my best to give her an actionable answer in just a couple of short minutes, of course, because I want to respect your time. And I think this can be helpful for anybody out there thinking about topic format. How do I decide what do I do next? Stay tuned for Grace's question and my answer.

When you run a business, every minute counts. You don't have a lot of spare time. And you probably

1:40.6

know that accounts payable can take up way more time than it should. A simple task can become all too complicated, but it doesn't need to be. That's why I recommend Intuit QuickBooks Bill Pay. QuickBooks Bill Pay automates your accounts payable and QuickBooks. It allows you to do more of what you want to do so you're not sorting through invoices during your spare time or when you'd rather be doing something else.

2:05.9

No more manual bill entry. You instantly see what's due, who needs to approve it, how it all works,

2:11.5

spend less time on admin, and more time keeping your business growing with QuickBooks Bill Pay.

Hi, Chris, this is Grace, and I've been following your work for a couple of years. Thanks to you and your team for the helpful content. After a rough 2020, I have some time on my hands and I'm committed to starting a new project this year. I'm torn and I'd like you to settle this internal debate. Should I start a podcast or a YouTube channel? Which is best for me right now. I know I could

2:53.5

record the podcast and then upload a version to YouTube, but if I do a YouTube channel, I want to do it
