As soon as you enter the Darian and enter the water highway, you pass by various villages,

some with more blacks, some with more of the Kuna Indians, and some poor, some richer.

And Pai was definitely the prettiest, wealthiest Kuna town. And it was the end of the water highway, so it was magical in that sense.
