This week we brought founding editor of the Washington Free Beacon Matthew Contnetti

on the podcast to discuss one of his latest columns conservatism in the time of the

coronavirus.

It's really interesting, Matthew argues that the outbreak of the coronavirus has further

the trends of national populism of people who are naturally skeptical of open borders,

national skeptical of immigration in the first place of a looming cold war with China

that all of these have kind of come to pass and have culminated in the kind of the perfect

moment for a possible realignment on the right.

What that also speaks to is the sort of folks who focused on increasing America's economic

capacity.

You have people such as the White House's Peter Novaro who went on this podcast who

spent the last several years talking about how we have this issue of outsourcing.

And Matthew and us really think that the coronavirus has highlighted an argument that these

folks made, which is that the US had this whole production issue, which is demonstrated

by the lack of masks, the ventilator production problems.

So that's just another theme that's going to strengthen that sort of part of the movement.

I think another thing to note too is that he names checks a lot of folks we've had on

the podcast itself, such as Representative Mike Gallagher, Senators Josh Hawley, and also

Senator Tom Cotton, because they're sort of the heterodox folks who sort of led the way

in the House and sent it on the right when it comes to approaching these issues.
