Hi, I'm Joe Forte. Welcome to the screenwriting life where I am getting to talk to Lorian McKenna today.

0:07.0

I have the honor of talking with Lauren McKenna today.

0:10.0

And Lorian and I are going to, what is it, called workshop, a new thought for the screenwriting life called Shop Talk.

0:19.0

And we don't know if this is going to work, but we're going to talk,

0:22.3

shop. Yes. Lori, what does it mean? The shop being writing. What do you think it means the word shop talk?

0:30.9

Like what would be good topics to talk about? We have one today. Yeah, I think the one you suggested

0:37.3

today, which is

0:39.1

how do you juggle multiple projects or manage them? I think it's really great because we get

0:44.0

asked that question a lot in our Q&As on TSL workshops and on the Facebook group. And we never

0:48.8

quite dig into it enough on episodes of the podcast, I think. So I think it's a good place to start. And I think

0:55.8

that's a great place to get questions. People want to get into the nitty gritty into the granular

1:00.0

of things that we don't often get a chance to with our guests. So we're standing around

1:06.4

the shop, you and I, and I'm going to ask you a question, which is, should you even have multiple

1:11.2

projects? People ask that, are you allowed to have multiple projects? Should you have multiple

1:15.9

projects? What is your opinion about that? Well, you know, I have an opinion about it.

1:21.3

And I want to hear it. The should part always makes me react because I'm like, how dare you say I should do something?

1:29.0

And I think for a lot of us working writers, it's a necessity. It's unavoidable. I would love the

1:36.9

luxury of you have one project. Here's a giant chunk of money. Here's how much time you have.

1:43.5

Focus on it. But even if you get that,

1:46.9

when you finish the project and you deliver it and you turn it in, what do you do next? So I think

1:52.6

it's inevitable that you are managing multiple projects, even if you're not getting paid to do any of

1:57.6

them. You should always have things in the, should. It is a good idea.
