Today we are going to be talking about the new initiative introduced by the SAT

that some people say will make the admissions process more fair and equitable.

The other day as I was scrolling through Twitter I began to see people posting about

something called an adversity score and some people were saying that this new score

which would be administered by the SAT,

would just end up being a way to discriminate against Asian people when it comes to college admissions.

And before we go any further on this whole new adversity score thing,

I would just like to clarify up front so we're all on the same page that regardless of what this adversity score thing does

Asian people are already being discriminated against when it comes to college admissions.

Like that's already a thing that is happening right now.

As the Asian American Coalition for Education reports,

in recent years, numerous studies have, quote, uncovered overwhelming evidence that

Ivy League Universities and other selective schools have been engaged in systematic and continuous

discrimination against Asian Americans in the college admissions process.

In fact, in the college admissions process, using the average white person's SAT score as a baseline,

it's concluded that being Asian in the application process penalizes you the equivalent of having 140 points less on your SAT score

While being black conversely benefits you the equivalent of having 310 points higher on your SAT score.

And to anyone who hasn't kept up with the affirmative action debate and is confused about

what's going on here, you see the problem is, and yes this is being labeled as a problem by some people
