Hello, friends, and welcome to the Nugget climbing podcast. This is Stephen Dimmit. My guest today is

0:06.8

Sonny Trotter. Sunny is a Canadian professional rock climber and pioneering first ascensionist.

0:13.1

First ascent of the cobra crack and the path and Pineapple Express on Lcap and the Canadian

0:20.8

Rockies trilogy. Second Ascent of Rhapsody,

0:24.1

Dave McLeod's E-11 in Scotland. He's also climbed Ambrosia, the famous V-11 highball in Bishop,

0:30.3

California. His list of accomplishments go on and on and on. Most importantly, Sunny is one of

0:36.5

the most likable and friendly and kind people you'll

0:40.1

ever meet. I really enjoyed this conversation. We spent about half of it talking about his life

0:46.2

and family history and raising kids and how his life as a pro climber has evolved. And then we got

0:53.0

into more of his climbing achievements,

0:56.3

how the cobra crack changed his climbing career, some of his training as a teenager and how it's

1:01.2

evolved, and the progression of climbing in general. And we talked about his book, which has been out

1:06.7

for about a year now. It is titled, Uplifted, The Evolution of a Climbing Life and features

1:12.6

a collection of great stories from his climbing. I really enjoyed it and highly recommend it,

1:18.2

and we honestly barely had time to cover any of the stories in the book. So definitely worth

1:23.1

checking out. We also mention Will Stan Hope in this episode. We recorded this five or six weeks ago,

1:31.1

and I just learned about Will's accident and about him passing away two days ago. And in case

1:37.9

you haven't heard, Will Stanhope was killed in a climbing accident in Squamish on April 23rd. He was 39 years old, and it's obviously

1:47.2

a huge loss to the climbing community. I had Will on the podcast really early on, episode nine,

1:53.9

and I only spoke with him a few times. I was on a climbing trip to Bishop, California,

1:58.7

when we crossed paths and did that interview.

2:01.5

And I really liked him.
