So very early on, in the 1970s, the idea rose that it's really important to have

though I have always believed that you should acknowledge what you're good at,

At the same time, I knew from the outset and I wrote about it in the 1970s,

that it was a truly foolish and probably destructive movement, the self-esteem movement,

because you have to earn self-esteem. Not only that, but as I always tell people who ask me,
