It's kind of hard to believe but it's already been two months since the killing of George

Floyd in Minneapolis.

It's kind of wild to think about and I honestly don't know if it feels like it's been two days

or two decades.

But what I do know is that a lot has changed

since I first saw that painful, infuriating video

of police officers murdering Big Floyd in broad daylight.

Now this doesn't mean that our work is done, of course it's not done, it's nowhere

near done. In fact, it's really only beginning.

But what I can say is that the battle lines in this fight against racist policing and police brutality

have shifted a lot over these past two months.

We've learned some important lessons from our past battles.

We're no longer simply demanding police reform.

We're no longer content to settle for loose promises of incremental

change, which has more often than not really only led to symbolic gestures that protect the racist and unjust status quo.

Instead, we're now fighting for a future in which police are no longer seen as the one-stop response to every public health and public

aid problem that our communities face.

We're standing up and we're saying that armed police officers are not

the best people to respond to everything from traffic violations to domestic
