Summary

On today’s episode, This Naked Mind head coach Scott Pinyard answers four great questions: I drink because I’m unhappy; how am I going to deal with all that stuff without alcohol? How do I avoid losing my connection with my friends when after our hikes they’re drinking and I’m not? I love the freedom of being alcohol free but will the major FOMO about never drinking again ever go away? I get so excited when I find new books, programs, and Instagram accounts to help me on my journey; why do I keep losing momentum?

Hey everybody, it's Scott Peneered Head Coach of this naked mind and I am back with another

0:33.7

edition of coaching questions. I've got four awesome questions today and I'm going to jump right in.

0:39.8

So question number one goes like this, how do you, one of the things I've been struggling with is

0:44.0

what am I going to do about all the stuff in my life when slash if I get alcohol out of the way?

0:49.6

I'm pretty unhappy on several fronts as a matter of fact that's why I drink to get rid of those

0:54.4

feelings. What am I going to do about all of this? It all feels overwhelming and like it's too much

0:59.3

to handle. This is a fantastic question and I got to say, you know, I have personal experience

1:05.3

with this and I'll go into that in a second but it's something that I do hear a lot from people

1:10.2

who are in our groups. Right? So when people look at alcohol and they say, man, I drink to relieve stress,

1:16.7

very often it's kind of those same things over and over that stress that we relieve. Right? So maybe,

1:21.3

you know, for me it was financial stress, it was job stress, there was some family stress,

1:26.1

there was lots of different reasons, lots of different things in my life that I was unhappy about.

1:32.2

And it felt like taking alcohol out of that equation was just going to be unbearable,

1:39.9

right? So a couple of things I want to comment on the question that we'll can talk a little bit

1:43.3

about the answer. First of all, you said, when slash if I get alcohol out of the way? The fact that

1:48.1

you were doing this and that you wrote in the question and that you're engaging with this means

1:52.3

that you're going to do it. I promise you, if you continue to work on this, you will get to a place

1:57.7

where alcohol is out of the way. Now in this question and in general talking about these bigger things

2:04.4

in your life, here's something I want to talk about is that if you frame these things as huge,

2:08.8

gigantic, massive things that I cannot deal with, it's going to feel like, oh man, I don't know

...
