The man's birth name was Herman Webster Mudgeett,

although later in life he would be known under a number of other identities.

oil eggs, toast, and coffee.

A New York Times reporter would later remark at how cool and collected the condemned man was as he dug into his food.

There was something unrepentant about the way the man cracked each egg shell, the reporter said,

stabbing his way into the soft gooey interior.

He ate everything, leaving only breadcrumbs and broken pieces of empty shell.

When Herman Webster-Mudget was finished, he dabbed daintily at the corners of his mouth

with his napkin and smiled contentedly.
