Summary

https://teachhoops.com/ hooting Mechanics and Repetition 🏀 This is often the number one priority. The goal is to build muscle memory so your shot is consistent and reliable under pressure. Form Shooting: Start close to the basket with no jump. Focus on perfect form: alignment, a high release point, and follow-through. Take 100-200 of these shots every day to build a solid foundation. Range Extension: Once your form is consistent, slowly start moving back. Don't sacrifice form for distance. The goal is to maintain your mechanics as you extend your range beyond the three-point line. Shooting off the Dribble: Practice one-dribble and two-dribble pull-up jumpers going both left and right. This simulates creating your own shot in a game. Catch and Shoot: Have a partner pass you the ball or toss it to yourself. Work on your footwork, getting your feet set quickly to rise into your shot as soon as you catch the ball. Elite ball handling allows you to control the pace of the game, break down defenses, and create opportunities for yourself and your teammates. The goal is to make dribbling feel as natural as walking. Stationary Drills: Work on fundamentals like pound dribbles (dribbling the ball as hard as possible), crossovers, between-the-legs, and behind-the-back moves. Do these while keeping your eyes up. Two-Ball Dribbling: Using two basketballs at once is one of the fastest ways to improve hand-eye coordination and ball control. Full-Court Dribbling: Practice dribbling at different speeds up and down the court, incorporating various moves and changing directions. Work on using your non-dominant hand exclusively for entire lengths of the court. The off-season is the time to build your body. A stronger, more athletic player will be more durable and effective on the court. Strength Training: Focus on compound lifts like squats, deadlifts, and bench presses to build a strong base. Also, incorporate plyometrics (box jumps, broad jumps) to improve explosiveness and vertical leap. Agility and Footwork: Use agility ladders, cones, and defensive slide drills to improve your quickness, balance, and ability to change direction. Endurance: Build your cardiovascular base with a mix of long-distance running and high-intensity interval training (sprints) so you can play at a high level for the entire game. Being able to score in traffic is a crucial skill. You need a variety of moves to finish over and around bigger defenders. Mikan Drill: This classic drill is essential for developing touch and coordination with both hands around the basket. Floaters and Runners: Practice shooting soft, high-arcing shots over outstretched arms from the area between the free-throw line and the basket. Contact Finishing: Work on absorbing contact and still finishing the play. A partner can use a padded blocking shield to simulate defensive contact as you drive to the hoop. The mental aspect of the game is just as important as the physical. Use the off-season to become a smarter player. Watch Film: Analyze footage of yourself to identify weaknesses and recurring mistakes. Also, watch film of high-level college and professional players who play your position to learn their moves and decision-making processes. Understand Spacing: Learn where to be on the floor when you don't have the ball to create better spacing for your teammates and get yourself open for easy shots.
