In November 2016, a U.S. diplomat and his wife were living in an upscale apartment complex in

Havana, Cuba, called L. Country Club.

The couple had only been living there a few months, ever since the American Embassy reopened in 2015.

One night after the diplomat and his wife were having dinner with some neighbors,

when the man suddenly looked up from his dinner plate,

looked around and said, hey, does anybody else hear that? What he was hearing was a strange

sort of chirping noise. He said it sounded sort of like the buzzing of cicadas, only louder

and a lot more mechanical. The noise didn't stop either. From that point on, the diplomat

claimed to keep hearing it constantly

for the next three months. Even stranger still, as the noise continued, both the diplomat and his

wife became sick. Both of them had excruciating headaches. The man whose name remains classified

said that as the days were on, it became difficult for him to think straight.

He said he felt as if he were experiencing constant vertigo.

He was nauseous all the time.

He told some of his coworkers at the American Embassy what was happening.

That's when a number of his colleagues said that they too had begun hearing strange noises inside their homes. Not only that, but they'd also begun feeling sick.

One of these embassy workers went to see a doctor in Miami who diagnosed him as having the same sort of symptoms
