Summary

Three great questions in this episode. First, how can you stay alcohol free when the seasons change and it’s time for warm weather and outdoor drinking activities? Then, do you need to only have positive thoughts to stop drinking; what if negative consequences motivate you? Finally, what do you do when you’re trying to stay alcohol free but your buddies want to go watch sports and drink pitchers of beer? Today, This Naked Mind head coach Scott Pinyard answers them all.

Are you looking to connect with like-minded people? Sometimes maybe you feel like you have all this information from doing This Naked Mind or The Alcohol Experiment, but you’re living in a world where people don’t speak your language.

That is why I created The Exchange. The Exchange from This Naked Mind is an online community where we meet face to face, live with video calls multiple times a week with people from all over the world just to connect and have somewhere that you are seen, you are heard, and you feel less alone. A place where you can really give back and get the support you need. If this sounds great to you, check it out at www.thisnakedmind.com/exchange.

And as always, rate, review, and subscribe to this podcast, as it truly helps the message reach somebody who might need to hear it today.

0:45.6

things are warming up. I was actually outside for this weekend for a little bit without a coat on.

0:50.4

And so I've selected a few questions that have to do with this shift, with this, you know,

0:57.2

when things change as we go through the first year, how do we deal with that?

1:01.9

So if this is you, pay attention because there's going to be a lot of tactics and stuff in here

1:06.2

that can help you get through this. What is normally a pretty exciting time? Let's dive right in.

1:11.9

So question number one goes like this. I am so excited and also scared for spring.

1:18.4

On one hand, I can't wait for the cold to be gone. I live in Minnesota. On the other hand,

1:23.0

I am worried about what's next. Hang out on the back porch going on hikes, going to the lake,

1:28.0

hosting barbecues. These were all heavy drinking events for me. I am over three months alcohol free,

1:34.0

but this will be my first experience of not drinking during the warm weather. How can I help myself stay

1:40.7

on track? So first of all, I grew up in Minnesota so I am very well aware of how cold it

1:48.3

is and I am also very happy for you that it's starting to warm up there. And congratulations on

1:54.0

those three months. That's a really good achievement. So what you're bringing up is something that we

1:58.8

see a lot from people who are going through their first year of being alcohol free. See,

2:04.7

there's this thing that happens no matter what time of year we quit drinking, there's going to be a

2:08.6

year full of firsts, right? So it's, oh, it's my first holiday season or it's my first birthday or

2:14.8

it's my first wedding or graduation or funeral or whatever it might be, right? It's the first time
