On September 12th, 1962, President John F. Kennedy gave his now legendary speech before Rice University in Houston, Texas, in which he declared that America was going to the moon.

We choose to go to the moon in this decade and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard because that goal will

serve to organize and measure the best of our energies and skills seven years later on july 20th

1969 that dream became reality when Neil Armstrong became the first person to set foot on

Earth's moon.

But as groundbreaking as the Apollo 11 mission was,

NASA was already drawing up plans for further trips to the moon,

and even for establishing lunar colonies on the moon's surface,

which was intended to be another stepping stone for future missions to Mars,

just four months after Apollo 11 on November 14, 1969.

NASA launched Apollo 12, although the primary goal of Apollo 11 had been to plant a flag on the moon's surface and safely return the astronauts to Earth. Apollo 12 had additional plans. The astronauts
