| 0:30.1 | Hi. One thing that you need to know about binge eating is that it is driven by urges to binge. |
| 0:37.1 | You feel an urge to binge for whatever reason. |
| 0:40.3 | And if you respond to that urge by giving it what it's urging for, which is a lot of food, |
| 0:45.7 | then you're going to eat and binge. This is why the main goal here is to stop feeling those |
| 0:53.2 | urges. And if you're like most people who binge, |
| 0:56.4 | part of the reason why you feel urges to binge is because you're not willing to feel emotional |
| 1:02.0 | discomfort and have been using food to deal with your emotions. You've trained your brain to believe |
| 1:08.8 | that eating food is what you're supposed to do in order to feel |
| 1:12.7 | better if you're feeling an uncomfortable emotion. So if your emotions get intense, |
| 1:18.2 | you'll feel an intense urge to eat so that you can make the feeling go away and feel better. |
| 1:24.6 | So when you feel an uncomfortable emotion, your brain will urge you to eat. |
| 1:29.6 | And usually, the more intense the emotion, the stronger the urge will be. So if you are one of |
| 1:35.5 | these people, then learning how to feel instead of eat is going to be crucial for you. |
| 1:42.1 | But even if you're not, learning how to feel discomfort is still going to be |
| 1:45.9 | crucial because urges in themselves are uncomfortable. And although when you're feeling one, |
| 1:52.1 | it might seem like you have to give into it, like you have no choice, you don't have to give |
| 1:58.0 | in and you do have a choice. You could choose to feel it out and feel it |
