Welcome back to another Adult Improver Edition of Perpetual Chess. In this episode, we feature another Queen’s Gambit convert to Perpetual Chess. 30-year-old tech executive and musician Alex Crompton recently became obsessed with the game and dove headlong into the best ways to improve at it. Alex is quick to note that his accomplishments are modest, but as he detailed on his blog, he has gone from total beginner to a respectable 1500 FIDE rating in less than a year. As our conversation reveals, lots of research and work went into this improvement. In our conversation, Alex shares tons of good study tips and reflections about the science of learning, including the ways that the study of languages has helped him improve his chess. 0:40.2	learn. If you're over the age of 50, you're eligible. As you guys know, I'm often saying, I wish we
0:45.4	had more data on this stuff. So this is not a paid advertisement when someone reaches out and they're
0:50.3	trying to advance the field in this area. I'm always helping to help out. So to be
0:55.8	eligible for this study, you must be over the age of 50, an active member of the U.S. Chess
1:00.8	Federation and have played in a rated game since 2019. All that you do if you do participate in
1:06.8	the study is a 30-minute virtual interview with Harvard researchers. So if you're interested in
1:11.4	participating, just Google Harvard Chess Study, and you'll be able to register for it from their
1:16.4	website. Announcement number two is that next week's interview will be a bit late. We're going to do a
1:22.6	world championship recap, of course, and I have a Grandmaster guest already lined up that I'm excited
1:29.2	for, but we don't know exactly when the World Championship will end. So whereas normally,
1:34.3	perpetual chess comes out like clockwork on Tuesdays at 7 a.m. New York time. This one will be
1:41.5	subject to the whims of when Magnus and Nepo finish their match.
