Generations ago, James Baldwin said something that's become a life quote that I almost wish wasn't true.

He said, to be black in this country and to be

relatively conscious

in a rage almost all of the time.

And this weekend was one of the quintessentially American weekends that just enraged me from

Friday to Sunday when I simply wanted to enjoy a few days with my family. It enraged me and

millions of us as the nation beat us over the head with the reality that we're not equal.

As whites from coast to coast, either openly protested the quarantine

or just blatantly ignored it, only to be treated warmly and respectfully by police everywhere.

And African Americans, sometimes in crowds of just two to three people,

were then brutalized and beaten and arrested

and sent to jail by those same police,

all in the name of social distancing.
