On November 10, 2012, at about 11.11 pm, an explosion ripped through a subdivision known

as Richmond Hill in Indianapolis.

Some residents watched their walls and ceilings collapse in on them.

Gloria Olvie was watching TV with her husband and two young children.

As she relaxed in a recliner, a piece of her own house suddenly hit her head.

Just as I turned, something hit me on the side of the face.

I mean, just boom.

I thought somebody would come up with a baseball bat and hit me.

Within moments their walls and furniture were rubble, trapping the family in.

She said it was all black and she could see two flashes of light up in the corner.

The lights were fires.

The house next door had exploded after a buildup of gas.

A buildup that one expert later said was the equivalent of three tons of TNT.

Christine Phillips, an investigative reporter from the Indianapolis Star, said a lot of

people in the community described it as like a war zone.

The epicenter of the explosion, which is on a street called Field Fairway, there was

basically a hole in the ground where there was once a house.

And on both sides of that house are, you know, two other houses that were also nearly

leveled.

I think more than 80 homes were either damaged or destroyed.

And at least five were completely leveled.
