| 0:52.7 | Our guest today, Scott Merkin of MLB.com. All right, we got to talk about Nolan Aeronado. Not sure how realistic it was ever going to get to the point. Was he ever going to go to free agency all the way with the White Sox to be able to sign them? But first, your thoughts, Scott, about the Sox, inability to solve third base, not just with Machado, but now Nolan Aronado not going to be signing with the White Sox as an eight-year, $260 million extension with the Rockies. I think the Machado thing is more the focus, right? Because there's been rumblings for a while now that Aronado was going to say. He seems to be that franchise, right? I mean, there's other great players, and players seem to like staying there. You know, it's funny because you talk to visiting guys, especially pitchers, don't particularly like with the thin air and all that going to Colorado, but Charlie Blackman, right, avoided free agency and signed a long-term deal. Aronado did that too. So that makes, I think it's just more of the Machado situation. It's interesting, I was talking to Jason Benetti today, who is now the voice of the White Sacks and also a White Sacks fan who grew up. And he said, you know, you can understand the disappointment. They were in this all the way and they didn't get it done. I mean, you can look at it from all sides. You know, the Sacks did make an offer that was higher than the $300 million guaranteed, but players do like the guaranteed money, obviously. Who doesn't? I like guaranteed money, too. You know, we all like guaranteed money. So I get it, but again, I said this recently on another show that, you know, it wasn't like the Sachs made a deal where, okay, we're going in on Machado, and if we don't get him, we can never get another free agent. there are going to be other free agents. There are going to be guys that are going to get through trades and they may be |
