Summary

In July 2021, Bart and Krista Halderson vanished from their Windsor, Wisconsin home after what was said to be a sudden holiday trip to the family cabin. As days passed with no word, suspicions grew. Friends noticed their cars still in the garage. Coworkers wondered why Krista never called in. And Chandler, their 23-year-old son, was the only one relaying updates. What began as a missing persons report quickly unraveled into something far more disturbing, as investigators pieced together a trail of strange behavior, hidden evidence, and chilling discoveries.

Welcome back to Mama Mystery. I am your host, Kelly. And before we dive into today's episode,

0:06.3

we have got to talk about this new Netflix documentary called Unknown Number. I just watched it

0:12.3

over the weekend. I actually had to watch it twice because I could not believe what I was seeing.

0:18.3

And when you go back and you rewatch it after having all the information

0:22.0

and you go back and watch it again, it is really just infuriating and maddening. So if you don't

0:28.6

already know, this is a case out of Beale City of Michigan where this girl, Lauren, and her

0:33.8

boyfriend, Owen, started receiving these text messages from an unknown number. And the messages

0:39.2

are actually so vile. I mean, the messages, like, just to give you an example, are telling them to

0:47.4

kill themselves. They're telling Lauren that Owen wants nothing to do with her anorexic flat ass

0:53.4

and, like, all these horrific. I mean,

0:55.3

that's not even really scratching the surface. I just know that we have some young people that

1:00.4

listen to this podcast sometimes. And I just, I was watching it and I can't even repeat it,

1:04.8

some of the stuff that was being said. And when you find out at the end who was behind these

1:10.2

messages, it will blow your mind. And then when you

1:14.1

rewatch it and you watch this person's interview throughout the documentary, it is just even more

1:20.6

maddening. I don't want to give it away in case you want to go watch it. If you do go watch it,

1:24.7

let me know in the comments what you think of it. If you want me to do an episode on that and see if I can dive even a little bit deeper.

1:32.8

Although I will say the text messages that are involved in the dock are all real text messages that were pulled from the case files.

1:42.4

And I think there was over like 350 pages of text messages

1:46.3

like this, that were going to Lauren, her boyfriend, and then multiple other kids throughout

1:50.8

the high school. It is absolutely insane. It is one of the most mind-blowing documentaries I've

1:56.4

seen in a while. So if you haven't gone and seen it or watched it yet, make sure you do and let me know
