For nine years, Linda Cuny, a Midwestern farmgirl turned south Florida socialite, was married

to wealthy tax attorney Jim Cuny.

It was said that through her marriage to Jim, Linda enjoyed wealth, status, and motherhood.

But over time, the marriage became an unhappy one.

It ended the way many marriages do, with drawn out divorce proceedings and a bitter custody

battle.

But this legal battle between X's got far uglier than normal.

By all accounts, Jim Cuny loved being a father to his two sons, but he had grown to despise

his ex-wife.

In his view, Linda's behavior was erratic.

Linda also resented her former husband.

She told whoever would listen that Jim was abusive and extremely dangerous.

On one February day in 1992, Linda walked into the local police headquarters and asked

to speak to a detective.

The more she talked about Jim, the more frantic she became.

At one point, she told them, you mark my words, before the next couple of days are over,

James Cuny will try to kill me.

During that same conversation, she said she would never let Jim take her sons from her.

A few days later, on February 7, Jim laid dead on the floor inside Linda's Juno Beach

home.

He suffered three bullet wounds, including one to the head.

Police arrived and found Linda in one of the bedrooms.
