Everyone, Marshall here. Welcome to season two of The Realignment.

Before we dive into the episode, we wanted to take the chance to reiterate what we're all about

at this podcast. We think that America is in the middle of a political realignment where you have

shifting parties, differing ideologies, and whole new sets of issues that are going to force

everyone to question and reckon with a changing world. We bring on a guest every week who's

really at the center of each of these issues for the perspective on how we should think about the

world. We do it through three lenses, technology, foreign policy, and economics. We opened up this

season with a conversation of Professor Michael Lynn and we brought back our season one for

your guest, Hilboeology author, JD Vance. We talked about Michael's book, The New Class 4,

Saving Democracy from the Managerial Elite. Lynn believes and agrees with the idea that we're

in the middle of a political realignment. However, he's pretty explicit about the fact that this

realignment in of itself isn't enough to fix American politics. His central idea is that America

was so successful after World War II because we forged a class settlement along the lines of

economics, culture, and politics. And in the America from 1945 to 1970, you had a system where the

working class and the college educated elite were able to share power in a constructive manner.

So his book is all about how we can we find a way in a realignment America to forge a new

consensus, a new class settlement in the 21st century. So we actually got the chance to record

this episode in front of a live audience at the Hudson Institute and we had a really great crowd.
