Is evangelicalism in crisis? We see people like David French and others taking up arms against a boogeyman of Christian Nationalism while leaders like Russell Moore, formerly of the Southern Baptists, have left their historical denominations.
Well, today I am joined by one of the most insightful analysts of contemporary Christianity, Aaron Renn. Aaron is a writer and consultant in Indianapolis who is a co-founder and Senior Fellow at American Reformer. His focus is on helping conservatives and the American church rise to the challenge of finding success in the 21st century.
His work has appeared in a number of leading global publications, including The Guardian,

| 2:01.0 | Oh, it's an honor to have you. I really enjoyed your latest piece for first things, the three worlds of evangelicalism. |

| 2:12.0 | And you talk about America entering a new world, a new social context with regard to Christianity, what you call a negative world. |
| 2:23.0 | Can you expand on that? Sure. If you go back to the 1950s, this was really the high watermark of Christianity in America, half of all Americans attended church on Sunday mornings. |
| 2:37.0 | And being a Christian was just part of American identity. There's a famous image you might have seen of New York City with all the skyscrapers lit up for Easter with crosses in them. |
| 2:49.0 | That picture was taken in the 1950s. And sometime in the 1960s, I dated to around 1964. |
| 2:56.0 | Christianity began to go into decline in America. And that period of decline from 1964 to the present. |
| 3:03.0 | I divide into three eras or worlds that I call the positive, the neutral, the negative world. So the positive world is 1964, 1994. |
| 3:12.0 | And this is a period of decline for Christianity, but Christianity is still basically viewed positively. |
| 3:20.0 | To be known as a good church-going man makes you seem like an upstanding member of society. Christian moral norms are basically the moral norms of society. |
