by thinking about the frankly the paradigm shift that has to go on in your head

to think about the kinds of issues we've been talking about this week,

productively. Instead of assuming that there is a class of people

with your best interests at heart whom we vote for, who will put things right and who will provide

various services for us and that we are helpless to provide these services on our own.

We are helpless to provide them on our own. We need them provided coercively

by the political class in Washington DC because these are the very best people we have.

Okay, maybe I'm caricaturing the view but that is the implication isn't it?

I mean why else would we have a system like this if it weren't for the idea that there are certain

people who are specially suited to provide indispensable services to us and we select those people
