Summary

Governor Abbott in Texas has declared an invasion and is deploying the National Guard to stop the endless flow of illegal immigration. Unfortunately, so many have gotten in that entire new towns are being built to the tune of 20-40k residents in unincorporated Texas communities. This also comes amidst housing and shelter crises in major metro areas where illegals, often from Africa and Asia, not even Central/South America, are filling up space like never before.

We are already in dire economic straits in some capacity, housing bubbles, and the like. What does this surge of illegal migrants mean for the economy, for Americans who are trying to buy a home and for the real estate market that’s already stretched in general?

Today, we’re going to talk more about it with my good friend, economics, and real estate expert Scott Scheel. Scott has been a recurring expert on this channel and is one of the most trusted names in business investment I’m aware of.

Hey gang, it's me, Dr. Steve, and I know many of you are aware that Texas Governor Greg Abbott, he's officially declared an invasion into Texas.

He's invoked Article 1, Section 10 of the U.S. Constitution that basically gives him special emergency powers to deal with the absolutely unprecedented level of legal immigration that's crossing our southern border right now.

But as you know, it's hardly just Texas. New York City Mayor Eric Adams has actually said that 50% of New York's hotel capacity is currently being taken up by illegal migrants.

So what does this all mean, this surge of illegal migration? What does it mean for the economy, for Americans who are trying to buy homes, for the real estate market that's already stretched in general?

I'm joined today by a good friend of this channel, economics and real estate expert Scott Shield, who's been looking into this crisis and the impact that it could have on our economy and our investment.

So Scott, welcome back, great to see you again. We're just chatting. You're you're back from a lovely time across the pond, and it's good to see your safe and the like.

Well, thanks so much for having me, Dr. Steve. It's always wonderful to be here with you and you're I would say fundamentally bedrock audience, you know, the foundation of America.

Truly, these are the folks that we need to encourage and inspire because at the end of the day, we've got to tow the line on keeping stability.

There's certainly an understand that we can never live within the status quo and things are always evolving and they're always changing.

But I think measured growth and measured change is what everybody recognizes prudence and responsible and immigration in and of itself is, you know, it's been one of the hallmarks of what's made America a great melting pot.

For anybody to sit back and say that look, we're not pro immigration would be I think laughable, right? It's really it's preposterous to say that.

But what's happening today is truly is an invasion and folks are being threatened on so many fronts and it's it's really wonderful because you're the first person that I've had posed the question to me over how this is truly impacting the real estate market specifically housing, but also multifamily.

And then as you talk hospitality, so I have friends who who own many units of hospitality hotels in New York City.

And to be honest with you, they kind of like it because they're getting a hundred percent occupancy at above market rates for housing illegals because there is no temporary housing and we're starting to get into inclement weather.

And so what that does then is that not only that not only drives up the cost of hospitality for folks who probably otherwise would be getting some our landish bargains is being you know the great city of New York.

Right, but it's more than that's what it's really ultimately doing is it's taking those dollars from law abiding taxpayers.

Yeah, and it's pouring it right into the coffers of folks who you know candidly are doing a little bit of gouging to make that happen because it's like look we know that we're going to be dealing with people who may or may not be maintaining the assets we're dealing with folks who may be disruptive.

We have high levels of securities to provide this housing and again these are these are contracts to you know from the government to take that from them.
