0:00.0	As many people were taking their lunch breaks in the middle of the day on July 30, 2014,
0:07.7	a veteran Minnesota police officer was conducting what was supposed to be a routine traffic
0:12.8	stop.
0:14.4	There was no warning that this was going to be an out-of-the-ordinary encounter for the
0:19.0	Mendota Heights police officer.
0:22.5	The Scott Patrick pulled over the Green Pontiac Grandam at 12.20 pm.
0:29.3	But according to what prosecutors would later tell a jury, the man driving the Green Grandam
0:35.1	was a criminal mastermind who hadn't registered the vehicle in his name.
0:40.8	The driver had an outstanding warrant for his arrest, and he had allegedly warned his
0:45.7	girlfriend the night before that he wasn't afraid to use violence if he was pulled over
0:50.4	by a cop.
0:53.2	Officer Patrick's dash cam video showed what happened next.
0:57.4	As he walked up and reached the front bumper of his police car, the driver whose face cannot
1:03.0	be seen pulled something dark out.
1:06.1	The dark object was visible out the driver's side window.
1:10.5	Then came the sounds of gunshots.
1:14.6	Officer Patrick was shot three times.
1:17.6	He fell on the ground and the green car sped off.
