Seemed like ages ago.

C. H.P. 202 this time, part six in this series, where we, well not the Royal, we, attempted to get a nice glance at this

2,000-year-old relationship. China and Vietnam have had their ups and downs throughout the centuries. We looked at the good and the bad.

In offering this general survey of the relationship, plus what we'll look at today,

perhaps some of you moving forward can all of a better appreciation of that relationship.

In this episode everything will start to become more familiar,

well modern times it's what's most relevant to us and what we can most relate to.

Last episode, we ended with the Chinese down on their luck after another embarrassing defeat,

this time at the hands of the French Navy in the Sino-French War, August 1884 to April 1885.

Between the damage done to the Chinese Navy and Fucho by the French and then later on after the Sino-Japanese

War 1894-1895, China had hardly any Navy at all, not like today.

Well, I said I wasn't going to wander. at all, not like today.

Well, I said I wasn't going to wander off into the whole other world of French-Indo-Chinese

history.

Most of it didn't involve China.

After the Sino-French War, France got a free hand down in Vietnam and China's

periodic domination and influence down there already greatly diminished, came to an end.

It was a heck of a run.
