Tonight on hometown ghost stories.

A dying mermaid cursed a Welsh fishing village centuries ago.

Cursed it to war, to hunger, to fire, to suffering without end.

This week we're in Conway Wales to find out if the curse held.

We'll walk the walls of a castle that has been

seized, surrendered, and bled into for over 700 years, and then we'll step into Plasmower,

the finest Elizabethan mansion in Britain, and one of the most haunted ones in all of Wales.

We've been to Conway, we've walked those streets. And we can tell you firsthand,

something is not right in that town.

Long before it was called Conway, before the castle, before the walls, there was just

a fishing village at the edge of the river. Maddoch was fishing the shoreline before first

light when he first heard the noise. It wasn't an animal sound, and it wasn't

quite human either. It was something sort of in between the two, and it made him stop and look at the

rocks below. And she was there. From the waist up, a woman, dark hair flat against pale skin, both arms braced against

the rock, trying to push herself upright.

From the waist down, a tail, silver green in the early gray light, each scale catching

the morning differently, moving against the wet rock with a slow, exhausted rhythm.

She looked up at him.

He called out.

The other men fishing came running.
