a brutal stretch of desert surrounded by legends of curses, lost gold, and disappearances.

For generations, people have searched the mountains for the lost Dutchman's mine.

Some claimed to find clues. Others were found dead in the

wilderness. Now the ghosts of some of those people are believed to haunt the mountains they

Superstition Mountains, Arizona, February, 26.

A single drop of sweat rolled off the tip of his nose and was immediately absorbed into

the desiccated surface of the desert floor.

It was day two of a four-day hike through the superstition mountains, and despite it being

February, the temperature still peaked around 100 degrees with the sun

at its highest point in the sky.

It was setting now.

And the cool evening breeze drifted silently through the valley as the last rays of the

sun disappeared beneath the distant peaks.

The narrow and winding path began to vanish into the deepening darkness of the dusk sky.

Nick suggested they set up camp. Andrew agreed.

After pitching their tents, Nick began preparing to cook while Andrew set out to find a dead cactus to use as fire kindling

since there was no wood to be found.
