Today we'll be telling a story about St. Philen, whose feast is celebrated on January 19th.

St. Philen lived during the early part of the 8th century. He was born in Ireland but moved to Scotland with his mother, uncle, and siblings

and lived there for the rest of his life as a missionary. His mother and uncle are also

considered to be Saints. St. Philen travelled all over Scotland and there are many churches

dedicated to him. His mother, St. Kentagerna, founded a religious

community on the Isle of Sky and St. Philin found his way to Glendochard.

St. Philin is reported to have had a glowing left arm that he used to read scripture at night when it was too dark,

and a flying bell that would come and find him whenever he called it.

You can still see the bell to this day at the Scottish National Museum in Annanborough.

St. Philen smiled as he took a deep breath of the fresh country air.

The sun was shining brightly over the hills, sparkling green and bright under the clear blue sky.

After spending so much of his life traveling, first from Ireland to Scotland and then all over the countryside,
