Summary

In this episode of Epic Outdoors Adam Bronson interviews Utah DWR Director Greg Sheehan. Recently the state Game and Fish Department closed the season for shed antler collection until April 1st. Adam talks to Greg to clarify the reasons for the closure and also to discuss the health of big game herds in the state. This year our winter has been particularly harsh in northern Utah and Greg sheds light on the decision as well as hunting outlook for this coming year.

0:36.3	I know it's the busy time of years, the legislature and whatnot going on, but yesterday, as you well know, you signed an emergency
0:44.0	order regarding Utah shed antler closure. So could you just go into maybe some of the
0:49.0	rationale, and I'm sure there's a lot of thought that went into that, because it's not something
0:55.1	that you know probably wasn't going to be well received in some regards, but tell us some
0:59.5	of the reasonings for that and what we're trying to do and accomplish.

1:04.4	Well, first of all, you know, I did sign an emergency order yesterday that closed down shed antler collections on all lands in Utah,
1:14.4	including private property, but that would take effect from what our normal opener is would have been the first to February here,
1:23.3	second of February-ish time frame up up until the end of March.
1:28.2	So the first time that shed honey would open again would be on April 1st.
1:33.4	And the reasoning behind that is in northern Utah, we've had quite a severe winter.
1:38.4	A lot of frequent snowfall, repetitive storm patterns that just kept piling up the snow.
