Hello and welcome to Business 300.

My name is Philip Kulenshov and this is 300 seconds about business.

We're all a busy people, so I have five minutes or less to get my point across.

I'm here, you're here. Let's get this over with.

In the last few decades, the word stewardship has been taken for a ride, used and abused, and is as worn out as an old kitchen rag.

It has been thrown out everything and has stuck to nothing.

So I might as well throw my shot and see what sticks.

I do think there's a right way to look at business ownership as stewardship, and there's a wrong way.

As a guardian, a steward is one who is overseeing and managing resources and responsibilities that he's been entrusted with by someone else.

There's a few ways one can go about this incorrectly.

All is three, and they're all rooted in the same problem.

One way is to squander the resources.

The squander either doesn't understand that all the abilities, resources, and opportunities he has have been given to him, or he doesn't care enough to live out of that understanding.

Either way, the squander

lives a life worthy of his name, squandering and wasting everything has been given, his abilities,

resources, opportunities, and gifts. He doesn't put them to any good use, but lets them pass by.

Another way to do it wrong is to misunderstand the idea of stewardship. There's a sort of person

who uses the word stewardship

when actually advocating for preservation.

He believes the less he handles the better the world will be.
