But what happened was, many times, I just sat there and I said, I can't believe that this paradise exists.

And at least for the moment, I'm a part of it.

That was probably the most profound realization that I had besides just loving the time that I got with my guys.

Today I thought we would do something a little bit different and talk to Kurt about his recent through hike of the Holy Cross Wilderness earlier in the month of August.

Kurt, this was your first time out actually doing a technical through hike, right?

It was my first through hike. I've done a lot of backpacking, and I think you know that, but I've done a lot of out and back back type stuff, but I've dreamed for a long, long time about doing a through hike of the Holy Cross wilderness,

and it just took a time commitment that has been very difficult to free up.

So this is the first time I had the opportunity to do a through hike.

The boys were old enough to come with me, and we decided we better take the opportunity while we had it.

Yeah, I want to talk about the boys in a second here.

So you said you've been thinking about doing this for a while, and you had told me about it in the past.

When was the first time you had come up with this idea to go through this particular area and why?

You know, I was exploring the Holy Cross Wilderness 20 years, 22 years ago.

That's a long time. And I hiked into a lake that is just one of my favorite places to go to,
