The villagers were seeing ghosts.

They came at dusk from out of the dense forest.

Their bodies slung low to the ground like something that had just crawled out of a grave.

These creatures were said to have human bodies, but their heads were those of demons, with

eyes that glowed in the dark.

The villagers called them the Manouch Baga, which in Bengali roughly translates to

mangos.

Rumor had it that these creatures lived somewhere deep in the woods, where they were protected

by a pack of wolves.

The year was 1920, and according to the story that was recounted later, this all occurred

in a remote village in India, called Gautamurri.

The villagers of Gautamurri didn't know what to do to rid themselves of these terrible

demons that plagued them night after night, so they turned to a visiting missionary named

Joseph Amrido Laal Singh, or help.

Reverend Singh was skeptical of the stories the villagers told him, but he was still curious

enough that he decided to stick around and check it out for himself.

On September of that year, the Reverend tried scouting the area, but could find no evidence

of any forest dwelling demons.

But the villagers who came to him kept insisting they were really there, and that they would

soon return.

So the Reverend ordered the villagers to build a hunting blind up in one of the taller trees,
