It is Tuesday, January 11th. Welcome to episode 192 of Menace to sports. I am Zach Smith.

0:09.0

Your host excited today. I guess I always say that. I'm always excited. But it is the end of college football.

0:15.0

It is officially over and Georgia is your national champion.

0:19.0

As a lot of people would have predicted early in the year, not necessarily the path you would have thought after losing the Alabama and the SEC championship game.

0:27.0

Michigan and Cincinnati getting into the college football playoff. We had a lot of drama this year. A lot go down, including Ohio State losing the rivalry game for the first time in 10 years.

0:38.0

So a lot of things were different in college football, but the SEC reigns supreme at the end having both teams and represent the conference in the national championship game.

0:49.0

And then obviously unavoidable with that scenario, the SEC brings home another national championship and well deserved. I will say well deserved and it makes you if you're a Buckeye fan, makes you a little salty.

1:02.0

Because neither team was invincible. This was not 2020 with Alabama, Devonte Smith, Mac Jones, a great defense. It was not a team.

1:13.0

Georgia was not a team that just looked impeccable, looked like one of the best teams that you could discuss in the last decade. Certainly not.

1:21.0

It was not Joe burrow and that offense of 2019 LSU Tigers national championship with their defense also playing well. It was not Trevor Lawrence and Clemson.

1:32.0

And this was little old Stetson Bennett, a small town Georgia kid preferred walk on. We'll talk about his story when we get to him and a vaunted defense at that, but not not a, not a perfect defense, not without flaw.

1:46.0

The defense was really good in some aspects, but they were beatable and others. And as an Ohio State fan, you have to be kind of salty that you couldn't get the defense right by the end of the year beat Michigan, win the big 10, make the playoff and make a run at it.

2:01.0

It's unfortunate and just, you know, it's, it's a missed opportunity because this was not a year where you had to face, you know, the steel curtain or the New England Patriots.

2:11.0

This was a year where literally whoever made it in that game, they had a shot. They had a shot to beat either Georgia or Alabama, because as I said, neither team has been what was was just unbeatable.

2:26.0

I mean, both teams lost, right? But I do want to, before we get started, I want to thank everybody for really all year. We did three different squares. We did a buck, I season board. We did the championship postseason board. And then we did the big money board.

2:40.0

And it was at the last hour. I mean, literally five minutes before kick, we sold our last square, but we sold them all.

2:46.0

Race $5,000 for charity. So that's 15,000 total on the season. Just appreciate everybody for supporting and playing and having fun. We had a big $3,000 winner. What a wild way to lose the $3,000 if you had the final score and that pick six.

3:02.0

God, if the kid just takes a knee and I know, I know one of the guy that the guy that had the score that should have hit or would have hit is a long time listener. And I feel awful for him. But that's football for you.

3:14.0

We are doing a super bowl, super bowl squares board, maybe even throwing the AFC NFC championship because people seem to like it. I love it. I enjoy it. You know, my friends, my family, they all buy, buy squares because they enjoy it. And a lot of them have broke even on the year.

3:34.0

If you win the 3000 on the on the national championship, it's hard. We didn't have enough squares for you not to break even. So you made a lot of money. It's just a fun thing to do. It's a fun fundraiser. And we're excited to do it. We will obviously will do another one for March madness. Though that one is a bitch. Man, there's a million games paying out all those people is a pain in the ass.

3:52.0

But it's fun. And it's all for a good cause. Obviously supporting many charities in the one being the early Jean Bruce charitable benefits with the zone six fund. I'm going to talk a little bit about that. But I did want to mention I haven't promoted them enough are our handycapping team over at menace to picks. Go follow them.

4:09.0

We did our our quarter review of September, October, November, December, which is college, basically the football season. And they ended the season. Those four months. What is that four months September, November, December, you have four months. So a third of the year, a little bit bigger than a quarter, I guess. I wanted to do football season 411 units up September, October, November, December.
